Always add 10% for waste

Cuts at walls, doorways and around corners waste material, and planks with defects get discarded. Ten percent extra is standard; bump it to 15% for diagonal or herringbone patterns.

Buy one extra box on purpose

Flooring is made in dye lots that vary slightly. Keep a spare box from the same lot so a future repair blends in, matching a discontinued lot years later is nearly impossible.

Divide your room's square footage (length × width) by the coverage printed on the box, then add about 10% for waste. This calculator does it for you.

How much extra flooring should I buy?

Add 10% for straight layouts and 15% for diagonal or herringbone. Keep at least one full spare box for future repairs.
